We are recriting a HGV Fitter - Fleet Maintenance Engineer for our client in Bromborough.

Key Responsibilities of the HGV Fitter Include: -

  • Ensure full compliance with The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 for all company vehicles and trailers
  • Monitor and rectify all daily vehicle and trailer defects and breakdowns
  • Ensure all vehicles and trailers undergo safety checks in accordance with statutory requirements
  • Liaise daily with the Transport Manager as to any issues or faults with specific vehicles and trailers
  • Ensure downtime of any vehicle and/or trailer resulting from maintenance or repair is kept to a minimum
  • Undertake regular stock checks and order replacements as and when necessary
  • Ensure all stock levels remain at an acceptable level, and that specific key stock items are constantly available, to ensure the provision of a timely and pro-active maintenance service
  • Ensure all relevant Managers are notified and kept updated in the event of a vehicle or trailer failure
  • Regularly inspect and review all vehicles and trailers to establish any requirement for upgrade
  • Undertake regular preventative maintenance to all vehicles and trailers to minimise the risk of potential failure and subsequent downtime
  • Maintain maintenance software
  • Ensure fleet maintenance costs are controlled
  • Assist the Production Maintenance Engineer if so required

Person Specification for HGV Fitter

Essential

  • Recognised qualification in equipment and vehicle maintenance
  • Recognised Health and Safety Qualification i.e. IOSH or have a willingness to undertake within 1 year
  • Welding qualification
  • Hold appropriate licenses and qualifications for specialist equipment e.g. forklift or have a willingness to undertake within 1 year

Knowledge

  • Familiar with and knowledgeable on DVSA Guide to maintaining roadworthiness (commercial goods and public service vehicles)
  • Extensive working knowledge of fleet and plant maintenance and repairs requirements

Experience

  • Experience in carrying out safety inspections on commercial vehicles and maintaining records in accordance with statutory requirements
  • Experience in the selection and recommendation of parts and stock levels in fleet and plant maintenance services
  • Experience in diagnosis of faults and remediation options
  • Able to report on condition and replacement recommendations for plant and vehicle items

Aptitude and skills

  • Able to communicate effectively to interested parties, colleagues and subcontractors
  • Able to work under own initiative managing own workload
  • Able to act decisively in sometimes a demanding environment
  • To be capable of providing a responsive service finding immediate solutions for the benefit of users
