SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking a reliable, experienced, Heavy Equipment Mechanic to work full time for SJS in Norfolk, VA to help support operations at a US Navy Joint Expeditionary Base facility.
SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 250 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; it specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.
The pay for this position is $29.50. As an employee of SJS, you will also receive sick time (56 hours accumulated), 11 paid federal holidays, and our benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
He or she makes repairs to a variety of heavy mobile equipment and vehicles, such as, but not limited to Highly Mobile Multi-wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV's), Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement's (MTVR's), bulldozers, front end loaders, graders, KALMAR Rough Terrain Cargo Handler (RTCH), buses, and non-propane fueled forklifts (i.e. gasoline and/or diesel powered).
This person will enjoy collaborating with a team and know how to conduct themselves with decorum, as they will be working on a property owned by the United States federal government and interacting with federal government employees and service members.
Responsibilities will include:
- The HDM will be assigned to the Mechanics Shop, as a part of a team of HDMs. The type of work performed involves routine preventative equipment maintenance and repair in accordance with the Navy's 3M maintenance program.
- Examples of work include, but are not limited to, oil and filter changes, fluid checks and replacement, tire repairs and replacements, brake system checks and component repairs and replacements, troubleshooting and repair of various mechanical and electrical equipment components, etc.
- The work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. May perform work on top of, under, and in tight compartments of vehicles.
- Frequently lifts and carries items, weighing up to 40 pounds, and often exerts similar effort in pushing, pulling, and positioning parts, assemblies, and equipment.
- Frequently lifts and moves heavier items with assistance of other workers or with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes.
- May be required to work from ladders or work platforms at varying heights. Work is performed both inside and outside. When inside, is frequently exposed to changing temperatures, and noise.
- Must follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as hearing protection, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, gloves, respirators, fall protection and protective clothing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have Valid Driver's license (Due to federal regulations, must be a REAL ID)
- 3 or more years of relevant and recent experience working on heavy equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, and Sky Trak 11k Forklift (LJG).
- U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations and
- Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification and appropriate refresher (if needed).
- Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; please note the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation.
