BLOX is seeking a skilled and proactive HVAC/Refrigeration Technician who excels in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical and mechanical components of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration control systems. The ideal candidate will be comfortable performing routine inspections and managing basic inventory supplies. This role requires working independently, developing project timelines, and resolving issues as they arise, with the guidance of a supervisor. The HVAC/Refrigeration Technician will plan and execute tasks, coordinate with others, and interpret policies to meet established objectives. Work assignments will be communicated verbally or through work orders, with oversight from a supervisor and local jurisdiction inspectors during and after construction.
This position involves managing all aspects of HVAC and refrigeration systems, ensuring proper functionality and efficiency in municipal facilities. The HVAC/Refrigeration Technician will be responsible for both routine maintenance and urgent repairs, while also managing inventory to support operational needs.
Typical Job Duties:
- Performs general support duties in preparation for maintenance and repairs. Inspects electrical, mechanical, direct digital, pneumatic field control systems, hardware, and equipment associated with heating, ventilation, air conditioning, controls, and/or refrigeration systems.
- Install hardware and equipment for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, controls, and refrigeration systems in both new and existing municipal facilities.
- Perform maintenance and cleaning of electrical, mechanical, direct digital, pneumatic field control systems, and related equipment. Repair or replace faulty components as needed.
- Manage procurement and inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure the availability of necessary products and services to meet departmental needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience working with commercial/industrial heating, air conditioning units (e.g., air handling units, power input units, chillers, etc.).
- Experience working with various testing equipment (e.g., pressure gauges, multimeter, digital voltage meter, and/or unit leak detectors).
- Experience maintaining Commercial/Industrial HVAC controls (e.g., direct digital controls, Johnson Controls, Siemens, and/or Honeywell, etc.).
- Experience installing, repairing, and monitoring electric pneumatic and pneumatic systems.
- Experience reading and applying blueprints/engineering/schematic specifications while installing or servicing equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- HVAC training course diploma and/or certification.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE) standards.
- Knowledge of building construction, codes (e.g., fire codes, life safety codes, mechanical codes), and building systems (e.g. HVAC).
- Knowledge of construction trade terminology (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry).
- Knowledge of current issues and ongoing changes within the HVAC industry.
- Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and practices of the construction and mechanical trades such as electrical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning.
- Knowledge of utility markings (e.g., company color codes and their meaning) used to identify types of utility lines.
