Job Overview Shriners Children's Chicago an opportunity for a part-time / evening shift Health Unit Coordinator in our Inpatient Unit. Our top healthcare professionals excel in their practices and provide compassionate, family-centered care to children who need it most. Hours: This is a 0.8 FTE / 32 hrs. weekly evening position. Responsibilities The Health Unit Coordinator manages the communication center of the inpatient nursing units, communicating courteously, effectively, and efficiently with all customers. Completes clinical information system and patient record responsibilities including admission, discharge, and transfers, patient registration, obtaining and updating insurance information; ensures that records are complete and accurate to allow for patient billing. Ensures nursing staff is aware of patient needs communicated to the HUC through the nurse call system. Notifies appropriate staff during emergency situations, acute admissions, and discharges. Provides assistance as needed to the nursing staff. This is not an all-inclusive list of this job's responsibilities. The incumbent may be required to perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Qualifications Required: High School Diploma / GED BLS certification Preferred: Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) certification Experience in a healthcare setting and medical terminology Previous HUC experience
