Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000

Loyola University Chicago Libraries seeks applications for the position of Research and Education Librarian, based at the Health Sciences Library. This librarian will be the newest member of a small and hardworking team and provide research, education, and patient care information services to students, faculty, staff, and practitioners at Loyola University Chicago's Health Sciences Campus, located in Maywood, IL. This is an open-rank library faculty appointment. At Loyola, Librarian is a special faculty designation with opportunities for promotion. The successful candidate will show evidence of teamwork, creativity, initiative, flexibility, and ability to work with diverse populations.
Reporting to the Director, Health Sciences Library, the Research and Education librarian will have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with the faculty, staff, practitioners and students at the Health Sciences Campus.
  • Provide instruction based upon pedagogical best practices and collaboratively design instruction.
  • Provide instruction and outreach online and in-person.
  • Customize curriculum to the needs of attendees and instructors.
  • Conduct reference interviews with patrons (face-to-face, telephone, virtually) and provides timely information.
  • Perform literature searches in subject relevant databases for faculty, staff, and practitioners.
  • Create and maintain research guides.
  • Create and edit online promotional materials.
  • Contribute to selection and de-selection of materials.
  • Represent the Health Sciences Library within the library and university community.
  • Develop expertise by participating in relevant conferences, committees, workshops, and seminars.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications

  • Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent degree.
  • Experience in a health sciences library or STEM discipline.
  • Experience working with a diverse population.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively and effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing knowledge and skills in other disciplines.
  • Familiarity with citation management software.


Preferred qualifications
  • Experience providing reference in a library setting.
  • Second degree in a STEM discipline, such as public health, nursing, medicine, biology, chemistry, etc.
  • Experience with library discovery tools and systems, especially Ex Libris's Alma and Primo and Springshare products.
  • Creating instruction for the health or medical disciplines.
  • Knowledge about or experience with the evidence synthesis process.
  • Expertise using and teaching EndNote.

Salary Range:

$55,000-$65,000

Additional Salary Information:

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on a range of factors including, but not limited to the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; rank at hire; budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
