Role Overview:
The Transplant Financial Coordinator is a key member of a multidisciplinary transplant team. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that transplant patients' medical services are financially cleared through proper insurance verification and authorization processes. The coordinator will work closely with both patients and healthcare staff to manage and communicate insurance coverage, benefits, and financial risks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify insurance coverage and submit authorizations for medical services.
- Counsel patients on insurance plans, benefits, and financial options.
- Provide Real Time guidance on insurance-related matters to both patients and staff.
- Analyze insurance information and clearly communicate findings.
- Collaborate in team meetings and case discussions related to financial clearance.
- Follow standardized processes to accelerate patient clearance timelines.
- Use internal IT systems to track and manage financial clearance steps.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives supporting patient care.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Professional appearance and communication skills.
- Solid understanding of insurance types: Commercial, Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO, PPO.
- Prior experience in insurance verification and authorization processes.
- Ability to explain insurance benefits and coverage gaps to patients.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication across diverse audiences.
- Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Tech-savvy and capable of learning transplant-related IT systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Epic, Cerner, or OTTR systems.
- Familiarity with the Passport Eligibility Verification System.
- Bilingual fluency (strongly preferred).
- Background in transplant programs or hospital settings.
- Experience handling complex or under-insured cases.
- Understanding of financial clearance workflows and process optimization.
- Participation in quality improvement or patient care enhancement initiatives.
