Job Description: As part of the KanCare Clearinghouse Program, the Health Benefits Application Specialist will carry out a variety of essential tasks including:
- Assessing initial applications and the supporting documentation for Family Medical programs to determine eligibility for federal and state medical assistance. You will investigate applicant circumstances using various computer systems to verify household income, resources, and expenses for eligibility determination.
- Entering household information and granting eligibility within the Kansas Economic and Enforcement System (KEES). This involves completing determinations according to State and Federal regulations and documenting eligibility decisions in the electronic case journal.
- Communicating effectively with consumers regarding eligibility processes and issues by leveraging your knowledge of State policies and procedures governing managed care enrollment.
- Participating in training sessions to enhance your understanding of Kansas Medicaid eligibility programs and developing expertise in various determination categories.
- Keeping your knowledge current regarding regulations, policies, and guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications/Experience: - High School diploma or GED; post-secondary education preferred.
- Proficient in computer skills with a knack for navigating complex software systems.
- Excellent data entry skills with the ability to accurately type between 28-30 words per minute.
Experience with MS Office, Outlook, and Internet usage is essential.
Preferred Skills or Knowledge: - Familiarity with Medicaid and managed care programs.
- At least two years of experience in determining eligibility for Long-Term Care, Elderly and Disabled, or Family Medical programs.
- Completion of KDHE Eligibility Training and sandboxing.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
- Ability to juggle competing priorities effectively.
- Strong critical thinking and communication skills, both verbal and written, including a good command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Willingness to work collaboratively within a team.
- Commitment to maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of all records and communications.
- Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.
