MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Valid teaching certificate; four-year degree and/or DESE substitute certification required
- First-aid certification required
- Experience as a wrestling coach preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Assume responsibility for the coordination of the high school and middle school programs in the assigned sport or activity.
- Use sound and acceptable coaching/teaching techniques in all phases of the program.
- Organize safe and effective practice sessions.
- Develop and delegate specific job tasks for assistant(s).
- Develop and adhere to an efficient and technically sound conditioning and injury prevention and treatment program.
- Develop in conjunction with the Principal/Activities Director a sound system for equipment accountability.
- Establish a working rapport with, and is directly responsible to, the Principal/Activities Director.
- Model good sportsmanship and enforce sportsmanlike behavior among the players/team members at all times.
- Establish good public relations in the school and community.
- Coach individual participants in the fundamental and advanced skills necessary to develop their full potential in the sport/activity involved.
- Demonstrate the ability to motivate the team and individual players.
- Develop a firm, fair, and consistent discipline system for the team and for individual players/members.
- Follow proper procedures in handling discipline problems.
- Cooperate with maintenance staff, transportation staff, and others who are involved in supporting the activities program.
- Adhere to budget guidelines for the sport/activity. Arrange for contacts with appropriate college recruiters for players/team members.
- Attend clinics, workshops, and professional organizations as related to coaching area.
- Make an effort to improve coaching strategies and techniques.
- Evaluate assistant(s) following district procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
