THE OPPORTUNITY
The Company is looking for a strategic and business-oriented Head of Finance and Accounting who can balance the functional responsibilities and strategic thinking required to make this role a true business partner and member of the leadership team. They must be a strong leader of people who takes pride in facilitating the development of their reports. This person will be the top financial leader in the organization. and would be in line to become the CFO as the organization grows.
The Controller will work directly with external auditors and ensure the annual audit is conducted efficiently. They must ensure compliance with US GAAP standards and maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial and accounting procedures. The successful candidate will have strong business acumen and commercial drive and be experienced in establishing business partnerships. The position calls for a strong bias for execution, an edge in making quick and solid decisions, and excellent communication skills.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Play a key role in driving the execution of the overall strategic growth ambition of the Company.
- Develop efficient tools, systems, and process optimization to provide timely critical financial and operational analysis as well as reliable forecasts.
- Create and manage the annual financial plan in coordination with leadership. The plan will include a projected budget, cash outlays, capex, and expense review. It should be reviewed on a schedule for 3+9, 6+6, and 9+3, with associated report-outs to management.
- Implement and maintain an effective cost-accounting system with the project management team. Utilize an effective model that is reviewed annually to ensure proper cost absorption.
- Review contracts for financial impact.
- Provide quarterly board deck updates for the financials, including financial highlights, narratives, and appropriate variance explanations via waterfall analysis.
- Implement operational best practices for finance & accounting.
- Manage and develop the accounting team so they provide business support and value-added services across the company.
- Assist executives with business development opportunities.
- Credibly representing the company to owners and financial partners, including financial institutions, auditors, public officials, etc.
- Implement operational best practices for the month-end accounting close, consolidation process, and all finance & accounting functions, ensuring accurate and timely financial statement preparation, KPIs, and the management reporting package.
- Provide detailed variance analysis explaining actual results versus budget and forecasts.
- Assist the corporate office with preparing schedules to support the federal tax return.
- Prepare covenant calculations and reports for banking partners.
- Coordinate and control all Authorized Capital Expenditure Requests.
- Work directly with external auditors and ensure the annual audit is conducted efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP standards and maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial and accounting procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years of experience in accounting with a solid understanding of US GAAP
- Construction (Percentage of Completion / WIP) accounting highly desirable
- Cost accounting
- Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Strong computer and Microsoft Office skills
- Experience in developing and implementing best-in-class management reporting
- An understanding of treasury and tax disciplines, such as cash management and banking relationships
- BBA in Accounting or Finance college degree and/or CPA a plus
- NetSuite ERP experience a plus
