Head of Design

Location: Costa Mesa, California (Hybrid)Job Type: 3 Months contract to permCompensation Range: $78 - 84 per hourWe're looking for a Head of Design to shape the next 20 years of our client's Adventure Business line. This role requires experience in technical apparel and footwear, a passion for the outdoors and fitness, and an understanding of diverse consumers. You'll lead a dynamic design team, fostering empathy, communication, and growth. This is a unique ground-floor opportunity to build a new product line and make a lasting impact for one of the top retail brands.This role will be reporting directly to Chief Product and Merchandising Officer. This is a unique opportunity to build a new product line from the ground up, influence the direction of a well-established brand, and lead a team of talented designers. The role offers potential for equity and bonuses in addition to a competitive salary. Freelancers/contractors will be hired to support the team.Responsibilities:Develop and execute the design strategy for the new Adventure Business line.Build and mentor a high-performing multi-disciplinary design team (apparel, footwear, graphic design).Collaborate with cross-functional teams (marketing, product development, etc.).Set a clear vision for the line and foster a positive and collaborative team environment.Hands-on involvement in design and development.Establish partnerships to expand the brand's reach.Qualifications:Proven experience in technical apparel and/or footwear design.Strong leadership and team-building skills.Excellent communication and coaching abilities.Passion for the outdoors, fitness, and a deep understanding of consumer needs.Experience building and managing a design team is a plus.Experience in a fitness brand.Skills: If you're a passionate and experienced design leader ready to build something extraordinary, we encourage you to apply.
