Gilroy Unified School District Head CoachBasic Function:The Head Coach supervises the specific sport's program. All aspects of the program are to be conducted according to the principles of the CIF-CCS and GUSD Code of conduct for Inter-scholastic coaches regarding trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship.
Responsibilities - Personnel - Adult: Oversight of all paid and volunteer coaches to ensure adherence with Code of conduct for Interscholastic Coaches
- Personnel - Student: Select players through fair tryout system, manage team preparation according to sport, its rules and capabilities of the athletes; work with the Athletic Director and relevant school personnel to monitor student grades and attendance to ensure continued eligibility
- Scheduling: Responsible for practice and competition scheduling in coordination with Athletic Director; head coach on-time attendance is expected at all practices and competitions.
- Fiscal: All fundraising is to be coordinated with the Athletic Director and all deposits and expenditures must be made through either the Athletic Booster organization or Associated Student Body accounts.
- Meeting & Rules: All head coaches must attend pre-and post-season league meetings. Must have working knowledge of CIF/CCS/NFHS and GUSD rules that are relevant to their sport.
- Communication - Head coaches are expected to respond to email and phone communication in a timely and professional fashion
Demonstrated Knowledge and Abilities - Techniques used in guiding, motivating and supervising students
- Skills utilized to maintain positive relationships with students and other adults
- District and school rules and regulations.
Ability To: - Supervise an assigned campus area
- Speak clearly, provide information in an understandable manner and give directions to others
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with staff, students, and parents
- Assure student compliance with the policies and procedures of the school and District
- Observe situations and accurately determine an effective course of action
Working Conditions - Inside and outdoor environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS (consideration will be given to reasonable accommodation): - Sit for sustained periods of time
- Climb slopes, stairs, steps and ladders
- Exhibit full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotation, shoulder abduction and adduction, elbow flexion and extension, shoulder extension and flexion, back lateral flexion, hip flexion and extension and knee flexion;
- Conduct frequent repetitive arm, hand and body motion
- Sufficient hearing to conduct in-person and telephone conversations
- Sufficient physical mobility to move about the school site
- Sufficient vision to read printed material
- Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, on the telephone, and in addressing groups
- Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to endure long hours under stressful conditions
- Standing and sitting for long periods of time
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard
- During crisis situations, may require moderate to significant physical work and lengthy periods of standing
- Physical ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to ten pounds on a regularly basis and up to 30 pounds occasionally
- Ability to bend, twist, kneel and stoop
- Ability to reach in all directions
