This posting is for a Head Coach, Unified Sports at WEST HIGH.

Experience as a high school coach is preferred, but not required.

West High School is seeking a passionate and committed individual to serve as the Head Coach for Unified Sports. This position plays a key role in promoting inclusion, teamwork, and sportsmanship by leading a team comprised of students with and without intellectual disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous high school coaching experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with students with intellectual disabilities
Required Certifications/Trainings:
The following certifications must be completed and uploaded to prior to completing a criminal background check:
  • Coaching Endorsement (PE/Coaching Degree or NFHS "Fundamentals of Coaching")
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification
  • NFHS "Concussion in Sport"
  • NFHS "Bullying, Hazing, and Inappropriate Behaviors"
  • Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training
  • Utah Educator Professional Standards (Read and E-sign)
  • SLCSD Vector Trainings (to be completed within 30 days of hire)
Upon appointment, SLCSD FERPA/Student Privacy trainings will also be required. Contact the school's Athletic Director if you have any questions about coaching requirements.

Background Check:
A criminal background check is required prior to working with students.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and inspire a Unified Sports team, fostering an inclusive, respectful, and positive environment for all athletes.
  • Plan and coordinate practices, develop game strategies, and ensure meaningful participation for athletes of all abilities.
  • Promote the values of inclusion and respect through year-round Unified Sports programming.
  • Collaborate with Special Olympics Utah, school staff, and families to support student-athletes.
  • Comply with all school, district, and UHSAA policies, procedures, and trainings.
Upong completion of coaching trainings and sport season(s), the head coach may receive a coaching stipend. Please reach out to Athletic Director for more information on coaching stipend.
