Based in north London, Haringey Aquatics is looking for a highly motivated, inspiring and experienced, suitably-qualified Head Coach to lead our coaching team and evolve our competitive programme at three pools across the borough.

Ourprogramme provides a pathway with multiple points of entry from Learn to Swim, pre-competitive, competitive and performance squads, swimming for fitness groups and masters, enabling young people and adults to take their swimming further. The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic development of our coaching programme and the personal development of coaches and teachers. They will plan and deliver a high-quality, enjoyable programme working across all squads to ensure our athletes have the opportunity to reach their full potential. This is a full-time role, but we would also welcome applications from candidates not able to commit to full-time hours.

We are Haringey's only competitive aquatics club, and provide quality coaching in swimming, diving and water polo for all levels of ability. A friendly, inclusive club, we aim to provide opportunities, through regular training, for each of our members to achieve their full potential. Our experienced, passionate team offer a pathway for progression in aquatic sport from novice level through to County, Regional and National competition standards. Haringey Aquatics is affiliated to Swim England through the London Region.

Key responsibilities:

  • Be accountable for the strategic planning, delivery and management of our swim programme, and in conjunction with the Club's committee, ensuring it is appropriately resourced at all times
  • Be accountable for planning, delivery and management of training sessions, with the support of our swim coaching and teaching teams
  • Lead, inspire and mentor coaching and teaching staff, promoting their personal development and ensuring training needs are met, fostering a positive and inclusive culture and a strong work ethic
  • Ensure that coaches and teachers are aligned with, and helping to deliver, your vision through engaging and progressive training plans while identifying, encouraging and nurturing talent across the swimming programme
  • Monitor, evaluate and provide feedback on individual swimmers'progress and set development goals
  • Plan and implement the Club's swimming competition agenda; attend competitions, providing support and feedback to individual swimmers and staff
  • Be accountable for the welfare of individual swimmers and coaches during training sessions
  • Maintain poolside discipline in accordance with our Club's policies and procedures and with the Swim England Code of Ethics; ensure compliance with Swim England policies
  • Keep abreast of and be willing to implement the latest developments and innovations in swimming coaching, updating qualifications as necessary
  • Maintain a comprehensive register of attendance
  • Be an ambassador for the Club

Candidate attributes:

  • ASA Level 2 Coaching Award/Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate as a minimum. Preference will be given to candidates who hold the Level 3 Award/Senior Swimming Coach Certificate or are working towards the latter.
  • Strong knowledge of child safeguarding and welfare procedures (with relevant qualification)
  • Strong technical skills and understanding of the discipline of swimming
  • Strong leadership skills and an ability to motivate and inspire colleagues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (friendly and engaging)
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to motivate, encourage and inspire swimmers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, colleagues and the committee
  • Ability to work closely and constructively with the committee
  • Ability to work and develop relationships with key personnel at training venues
  • Ability to work effectively, independently and as part of a team.
  • Punctuality, reliability and commitment to the Club and its goals
  • An ability to reach all training and meet locations
  • Enhanced DBS certification will be required
