Position Summary: The primary purpose of the head boys basketball coach at Southwest Christian is to develop student-athletes both on and off the court, guiding them to grow in athletic skill, character, and Christian faith. In essence, the role is about discipleship through sport-helping boys become godly men, not just skilled athletes.
Essential Job Duties: - Strategy and Implementation: Designs, coordinates, and implements systems and philosophies that lead to a championship culture
- Player Development: Instructs athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for individual and team success; focuses on the holistic development of players, including academics, athleticism, basketball skills, and spiritual growth
- Team Leadership: Maintains discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the team and the broader school community; supervises practices, games, and team-related activities
- Scouting and Game Planning: Analyzes opponent strategies and develop comprehensive defensive game plans; stays updated on technical aspects of basketball and incorporate new ideas into coaching methods
- Mentorship and Spiritual Guidance: Actively participates in ministry opportunities such as mission trips, service projects, and advisory groups; integrates spiritual development into the basketball program, serving as a Christian role model for student-athletes
- Communication: Regularly updates the Athletic Director about any issues, concerns, or highlights during the season; engages with parents, faculty, and the broader community to promote the basketball program
- Supervisory role: Directs the work of assistant coaching staff
Requirements
Educational & Experience Requirements: - Bachelor's degree from an accedited college or university; Master's degree preferred
- 5 years of successful head coaching experience

- Demonstrates the spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to "train up a child in the way he should go" (Proverbs 22:6)
- Recognizes the role of the parents as primarily responsible before God for their children's education and commits to be a partner in that endeavor
- Possesses the ability to work gracefully with parents, students, and other school staff to develop a unified and successful educational program
- Cooperates with administrators, department chairpersons, and other school leadership to implement policies and procedures as they pertain to the daily operation of the School
- Follow Matthew 18 principle in dealing with conflict with donors, parents, staff, and administration
- Demonstrates the ability to accept and carry out responsibilities and make competent, professional decisions
- Eagerly participates in professional development activities and the evaluation process with a desire to grow professionally, spiritually, and personally throughout the career in education
- Maintains a professional personal appearance that is a Christian role model of cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and is in accordance with school policy
Work Environment The work environment at Southwest Christian School is consistent with a typical school setting. The employee normally works indoors but may be required to be outdoors in unpredictable temperatures (exposured to sun, heat, cold, inclement weather) to monitor outdoor activities or move between buildings. The employee must be able to maintain emotional control when faced with stressful situations. There is continual walking and standing; moderate lifting and carrying; stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. The noise level in the environment is usually low to moderate but may become loud occasionally. Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. Frequent district-wide and state-wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours. The employee is frequently required to interact with others within the school community, including parents and other caregivers.
