POSITION: Head Basketball Coach

LOCATION: Dougherty High School

JOB SUMMARY:
The Dougherty County School System is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Basketball Coach to lead the boys basketball program at Dougherty High School. This position includes teaching responsibilities in a subject aligned with the candidate's certification and experience.

As a leader both on and off the court, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all facets of the basketball program-from skills development and strategic planning to student-athlete mentorship and academic support-while upholding the values of teamwork, character, and academic excellence.

In addition to coaching responsibilities, the Head Basketball Coach will serve as the Director of Basketball Operations for the high school basketball program as well as the middle school feeder program. This includes coordination of programmatic alignment between middle and high school basketball, mentorship of middle school coaching staff, and collaboration on player development across grade levels.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution;
  2. Valid Georgia Teaching Certification;
  3. Previous successful coaching experience at the secondary level or higher; high school head coaching experience preferred;
  4. Experience managing a comprehensive athletics program, including budgeting, compliance, and community engagement;
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate.

  1. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills;
  2. Excellent communication and organizational abilities;
  3. Ability to motivate, mentor, and build rapport with student-athlete;
  4. Commitment to fostering academic success and character development;
  5. Proficient in designing inclusive and engaging instructional strategies (for teaching assignment).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Basketball Program Leadership
  1. Plan, organize, and execute practices focused on skills development, conditioning, and game preparation;
  2. Lead all team activities, including scheduling, strategy, player rotations, and sideline coaching
  3. Supervise assistant coaches and promote consistent coaching philosophies;
  4. Promote high standards of sportsmanship, discipline, and accountability;
  5. Collaborate with Athletics Director to ensure compliance with GHSA regulations and district policies;
  6. Coordinate team logistics including travel, equipment, uniforms, and facility use
  7. Organize team fundraising efforts and foster positive community relations;
  8. Monitor student-athlete eligibility and academic performance, working closely with counselors and staff.
Director of Basketball Operations
  1. Provide leadership, coordination, and alignment of basketball programming between high school and middle school levels;
  2. Serve as a liaison between high school and middle school coaches to ensure vertical alignment in skills development and team philosophy;
  3. Support the identification and development of student-athletes in the middle school feeder programs;
  4. Serve as a member of the selection committee for all middle school basketball coaching positions.
Instructional Responsibilities (Teaching Assignment)
  1. Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction in assigned content area;
  2. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students;
  3. Utilize assessment data to inform and adjust teaching practices;
  4. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress;
  5. Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom culture;
  6. Communicate effectively with parents and staff regarding student performance;
  7. Participate in school-wide initiatives, meetings, and ongoing professional development;
  8. Performs other such duties needed or assigned by the Supervisor.

REPORTS TO: Principal
