The Olympic Club, a private member athletic and country club in San Francisco, seeks a Part-Time Group Fitness Instructor for our downtown City Clubhouse. At The Olympic Club, our members enjoy 2 campuses, 19 sports, world-renowned golf courses, exceptional social and athletic programs as well as 18 hotel rooms and 5 Food & Beverage outlets. Our City Clubhouse is located one block from Union Square and within easy walking distance of the Powell Street BART station. Our Lakeside Clubhouse sits next to the ocean on the border of San Francisco and Daly City.

Position Summary:

Responsible for instructing specialty-specific fitness classes and ensuring guest safety and comfort. In addition, provide modifications to accommodate all levels of fitness.
  • Essential functions and responsibilities:
    • Teaches and plans classes according to methods and techniques in the area of specialty, logs class count and new participants, and clocks in and out.
    • Sets up, assists members, and monitors class equipment and ensures that it is returned in working condition and leaves the studio in a tidy condition.
    • Must be able to offer exercise options and modifications to accommodate all levels of fitness (and maintain continuing education, mandatory certifications, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications.)
    • Answers questions from participants after each session and commits to follow-up communication.
    • Refers any problems or complaints to the direct supervisor.
    • Ensures that safety and injury prevention policies and procedures are adhered to by participants, reports accidents, any known safety hazards, or unsafe practices to management immediately.
    • On occasion must be able to provide coverage for other instructors.
    • Responsible for informing and assisting in finding a substitute for their class when unable to teach (from the provided substitute list).
    • Attend monthly meeting and required trainings
Regular attendance is required based on business expectations and needs.
The Essential Functions of this position also include regular and reliable attendance, the ability to work overtime as necessary, the ability to travel to required events, the ability to work well and cooperatively with members and other employees, and the ability to get along with members and other employees.

Non-Essential functions and responsibilities:

Qualifications Required:
  • 2 years of teaching experience in your field
  • Must have current GFI certification and required certifications necessary to instruct specialty classes.
  • Current CPR and First Aid preferred.
  • Must be able to effectively lead with a commanding presence, masterfully cue, adjust, and communicate and/or demonstrate exercises or postures you are instructing for a mixed-level class specific to the one you specialize in.
