JOB TYPE: Part-time
SUMMARY: The Group Fitness Instructor will prepare and lead a fun, safe and effective group fitness class based on the class description, offering modifications for less experienced or more experienced individuals as needed. The instructor will represent SBTS in a positive manner, greeting the class attendance as they enter and leave class. The person in this position will possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to create and conduct safe exercises for a wide variety of fitness levels.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The employee in this position will have the following essential job functions:
Class Preparation & Instruction: - Effectively research, design and lead group fitness sessions utilizing relevant work experience and training to ensure engaging and effective sessions
- Structure each session within the allotted time frame, maintaining a smooth and organized flow.
- Incorporate prayer and/or scripture at the beginning or end of each class to encourage spiritual growth.
- Prioritize the safety and long-term health of every participant by offering modifications when necessary.
- Foster meaningful and encouraging relationships with class members to build a supportive fitness community.
- Serve as an example of both physical health and moral character, inspiring participants through actions and words.
- Continue developing knowledge, skills, and expertise relevant to fitness training and coaching.
Schedule & Availability: - Arrive at least 10-15 minutes before class to welcome participants, set up equipment, and start on time.
- Have a willingness to substitute for fellow instructors when needed.
- Be available to teach classes during early mornings, midday, and evenings.
Other Expectations: - Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and demonstrate the maturity required to lead and serve as a role model for class participants.
- Uphold a commitment to personal fitness and overall well-being.
- Ensure cleanliness and proper organization of gym spaces and equipment after each class.
- Enforce Health and Recreation Center policies and procedures when needed.
- Support HRC events, including but not limited to locker clean-outs, health fairs, and the Fall Festival.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
EDUCATION: The person in this position should have a background in fitness (certification is ideal but not required).
EXPERIENCE: The person in this position must have (at least) adequate knowledge and experience in teaching on some level.
SUPERVISION: The person in this position will supervise no one.
The person in this position will report to the Coordinator of Group Fitness and/or the Director of Health and Recreation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The person in this position will work in the gym which sometimes can be noisy, hot or cold.
EQUIPMENT: The person in this position will use a whiteboard, various exercise equipment, and a sound system.
