Group Fitness Instructor

Job Description

Group Fitness Instructor teach scheduled fitness classes, instruct participants on effective/safe techniques/methods of respective exercise, uphold/enforce policies and procedures of the Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness and Well-being while providing a safe, inclusive, and equitable fitness space for our diverse campus community.


Job Duties

• Must possess accredited group fitness certification for their respective class/program. Classes taught must align with specific program and certification integrity.

• In addition, the instructor will help with promoting/managing class participant registration, maintaining the cleanliness of the fitness space and equipment and assisting with campus wide events

• Collaborate with other departments on campus to perform group fitness classes

• Create an inclusive and equitable class environment for diverse learning styles

• Evening and weekend hours may be required as the Bowers Center is open 7 days/week.

• Instructors must attend any mandatory training.

• If not already CPR/First Aid/AED certified, certification must be obtained during training weeks as coordinated by supervisor.

• Instructors are expected to be present at all staff meetings scheduled by the Director

Required Qualifications

• Interest in helping others meet their fitness goals

• In good standing with the college

• CPR/First Aid/AED certified

• Fitness class certification

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Good interpersonal skills and desire to be a team player

• Exceptional conversation skills

• Excellent oral communication skills

• Ability to multitask and problem solve in a fast-paced environment

Physical Demands

• Occasionally required to stand for long/extended periods of time.

• Regularly required to move about.

• Regularly required to maintain balance while walking, standing, crouching, or running.

• Occasionally required to reach up and out with hands & arms.

• Regularly required to talk and hear; verbally express information or instructions.

• Regularly required to use hands to grasp objects, type, pick up objects, move objects or hold objects.

• Occasionally required to lift up to 45 pounds and carry a distance of 10 feet.

• Occasionally required to push and/or pull up to 45 pounds a distance of 10 feet.
