Come and join our fun Fitness and Group Exercise team at the Torigian Family YMCA POSITION SUMMARY: Seeking energetic, upbeat group exercise instructors to lead fun, innovative fitness classes for our diverse and highly-engaged YMCA membership. Formats sought include cardio, step, yoga, strength training, and bootcamp.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To be successful in this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Other essential and non-essential responsibilities and projects may be assigned.
- Safely and effectively guide participants through fitness classes with professional, concise instruction in line with current industry standards
- Program engaging fitness classes with appropriate playlists and exercise routines which are changed up regularly
- Responsible for presenting a positive and competent image of the YMCA through quality programming designed to meet the needs of the community.
- Remain current in required and voluntary trainings at the Metro North YMCA
- Must start and end on time and be well organized and prepared to teach classes.
- Provide excellent customer service to and build relationships with all participants in class, regardless of fitness level, appearance, or otherwise.
- Communicate effectively with the Health and Wellness Director via phone, email, or in person.
- Understand and follow all administrative procedures and adhere to the guidelines outlined in the YMCA Employee Handbook.
- Adhere to all building policies and procedures and assist as needed during emergencies.
- Attend Group Fitness and department staff meetings.
- Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 18 years old or older
- Must have a fitness/group exercise background
- Must be physically fit to lead a class at the appropriate level
- Must have a current certification through a nationally recognized organization or one that is approved by the Metro North YMCA supervisor.
- Must have a current, Metro North YMCA approved, CPR, AED and First Aid certification.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES/KNOW HOW:
- Possess excellent communication and human relation skills.
- Ability to work as an integral member of the team.
- Ability of handle member concerns quickly and effectively
- Ability to encourage members to reach their fitness and wellness goals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able demonstrating appropriate and correct techniques when teaching Group Fitness classes.
- Some lifting may occasionally be required of up to 45 pounds.
- Must be able to walk up and down a few flights of stairs.
REQUIRED TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Nationally accepted Group Exercise Certification and/or Personal Training Certification
- CPR/AED certification
