Job Description:Primary Responsibility
Under the director of the Site Manager and Assistant Site Manager, this position will assist with installation and maintenance of gardens/plantings at Bear Park Permaculture Center.
This is a part-time position which is limited to 28 hours per CMC's workweek. CMC's workweek is Saturday through Friday.
Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)
Education and experience sufficient to meet the rigors of the position. or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform the functions of the position. Current or previous coursework in or related to sustainability preferred. Previous experience in gardening or landscaping, permaculture concepts and practices preferred.
Special Skills or abilities directly applicable to the position: ability to lift 25 lbs. required. Excellent follow through required. Strong interest in learning the practice of food growing and applying that learning to Bear Park gardens required.

The hiring pay rate is $20.01 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution, annual and sick time, mental health resources, and tuition benefit. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate's skill and experience. Although a hiring rate is listed, this will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Minimum Qualifications:Essential Duties
Installation and maintenance of gardens/plantings at Bear Park Permaculture Center.
Implement Bear Park Permaculture Center site installations/designs.
Install and repair automated drip/micro irrigation systems. Install/maintain aquaponics system.
Plant/transplant trees, shrubs, and annual plants, build soil, and construct raised beds.
Construct hügelkultur berms to promote water infiltration on site.
Plant companion species for mutual benefit in the permaculture garden.
Construct and maintain pathways.
Control invasive weeds, deter animals that can damage plantings. Safely operate/use power and hand tools/equipment.
Trim grass using power equipment. Perform minor servicing for site equipment and tools. Prune trees.
Deploy and remove season extension protective equipment. Apply mulch.
Install weed barrier fabrics. Harvest food grown on site Perform general plant/site care.
Perform other related work necessary to the successful design and operation of the site.
Other duties as assigned.

Special Conditions of Employment
Successful completion of a background check including a motor vehicles records report required. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned. Some evening and/or weekend hours may be required.
Working Conditions
This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing, and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
