Basic Function

Under the direction of an administrator or manager, conceptualizes and creates designs, concepts, and layouts, produces digital and photographic content for the College's website, print, digital, and social media channels to support the marketing, advertising, public relations programs, and community relations to ensure the College's community, regional, state, and national presence.

Representative Duties

1. Designs and creates visually appealing graphics and photographic content for use on all social media platforms while managing the College's social media channels with daily updates, frequent monitoring, and performance analytics. E

2. Designs, lays out, and prepares traditional and digital pre-press camera-ready artwork for offset printing; determines the color and techniques of final products. E

3. Plans, designs, and produces artwork and event collateral using a variety of modern techniques and media for such items as brochures, slides, print and electronic advertisements, social media posts, charts, graphs, flyers, and posters. E

4. Coordinates projects with both internal and external printers; creates final print-ready files to requested specifications such as crop marks, bleeds, 2-up, 4-up for marketing, outreach, and promotional materials. E

5. Photographs College events; maintains and archives a digital, graphic, and photo library. E

6. Applies computer graphics in the production of artwork including soft- and hardware management. E

7. Advises instructional and administrative personnel on various aspects of graphic arts projects which may include art media and timelines. E

8. Prepares photographs for print and display including mounting, laminating, retouch, size, crop, and scan. E

9. Creates signage, banners, and backdrops using various media, styles, and sizes, including setting up the backdrop. E

10. Enhances appearance of printed materials by determining formats, typeface, type size, and related design considerations in producing typeset material. E

11. Designs and develops department brand identities; creates original designs and artwork for promotional materials. E

12. Performs a variety of clerical and administrative responsibilities in support of the department's day-to-day activities and/or operations utilizing a variety of communication modalities including but not limited to answers and responds to phone calls, emails, text messages, and chat platforms; opens, screens, and distributes mail and correspondence; photocopies documents and requests duplication services; ensures maintenance and repairs of assigned work areas, facilities, or equipment; enters various requests for services from IT, Facilities, and Maintenance; contacts vendors for equipment service, when needed; follows-up with vendors to ensure satisfactory completion of requests; may perform simple repairs or maintenance to standard office equipment. E

13. Performs other related duties that support the overall objective of the position.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

• District and college policies, procedures, rules, and regulations related to the area of
assignment.

• California Education Code and Title V as it relates to the area of assignment.

• Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

• Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations and District policies and
practices pertinent to the area of responsibility.

• Graphic design, digital marketing, and social media management.

• Current designs and social media trends.

• Multimedia styles of communication and reporting including web-based presentation
modes, and electronic interactions for a variety of audiences.

• Computer proficiencies in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and
PowerPoint), creative and graphic design programs such as Quark, Xpress, Illustrator,
PhotoShop, and Freehand Typography.

• Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary based on the
AP Style Guide of Writing.

• Creative arts and graphic design standards and principles.

• Photography skills with experience taking individual and group photos in a variety of
settings; comfortable in leading photo shoots.

• Digital asset management for editing, sharing, cataloging, and archiving large
numbers of photos and videos.

• Proper verbal and written communication techniques, including proofreading,
grammar, and spelling precision.

• Mac and PC platforms.

• Proper technique to work and utilize social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube,
Snapchat, Instagram, etc.).

• Modern techniques, materials, and equipment used in graphic design.

• Principles of color and design theories.

• Requirements and terminology for traditional and digital pre-press.

• High volume printing methods, both offset and web.

• Principles of marketing and public relations.

• Techniques related to the preparation of graphics for television, multimedia,
including digital and video formats.

• Electronic pre-press processes.

• Effective communication techniques, both verbally and in writing.

• Record keeping, filing, file sharing, and filing systems methods and techniques.

• Computer software programs, applications, databases, and Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP) systems; computer hardware and peripheral equipment related to the
area of the assignment.

• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Ability to:

• Independently perform the essential responsibilities of the position.

• Work well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple competing priorities and projects.

• Independently produce artwork utilizing a variety of graphics and materials and equipment.

• Proficiently utilize a variety of creative software programs and applications.
