DESCRIPTION

The teacher will present the assigned curriculum in order to not only foster creativity, but to also encourage students to possibly pursue graphic design as a career. Instruction will include how graphic design is used in the world today and how its use will continue to impact the future. The candidate shall instruct students in the utilization of the leading graphic design software and afford them opportunities to study the works of the top professionals designers.

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's degree or higher; valid Virginia Teaching License with the required endorsement (Visual Arts, PK-12; or CTE Business & Information Technology).
  2. Teaching experience at the designated academic level and Master's Degree preferred.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of current practices, techniques, and methods of teaching.
  4. Proficiency in current instructional technology software and design programs.
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Immediate Supervisor: Principal

Contract: 10 month (200 days)

Salary Scale: Instructional

FLSA Status: Exempt

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  1. Demonstrates an accurate knowledge of graphic design and effectively addresses appropriate CTE VDOE curriculum standards.
  2. Develops in each student awareness and understanding of basic skills, knowledge, and resources applicable to the hair industry.
  3. Participates in and provides business partners for the CTE Advisory Board.
  4. Sponsors the local chapter of their respective CTSO (Career & Technical Student Organization); Encourages and assists students in competition preparation.
  5. Coordinates and oversees WBL experiences.
  6. Fosters workplace readiness skills by strategically integrating Virginia's 5Cs into daily lesson plans.
  7. Provides and monitors an updated program inventory list required by law, school division policy, and administrative regulations.
  8. Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the required curriculum.
  9. Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the curriculum and standards associated with the assigned subjects.
  10. Utilize technology to enhance teaching and instructional planning.
  11. Provide age appropriate curricula which results in student engagement.
  12. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to effectively communicate subject matter to students.
  13. Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
  14. Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
  15. Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with State standards.
  16. Development and implement assessments that fairly measure student progress to achieve pre-determined achievement goals and expectations.
  17. Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit grades in accordance to established deadlines.
  18. Serve on school and division-wide program committees as required.
  19. Respond in a timely fashion to requests from colleagues, administration, students, and parents.
  20. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, parents, colleagues, staff and administrators.
  21. Participate in professional activities that contribute to personal professional growth.
  22. Performs other related duties as assigned.
