Pay Range: $45 - $50/hour. Employee benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave (depending on work location).
Key Responsibilities:
- Collecting and compiling geographic data from a variety of sources, such as maps, surveys, and satellite images.
- Digitizing and entering geographic data into GIS databases.
- Creating and updating GIS maps and layers using GIS software.
- Performing quality control checks on GIS data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Analyzing geographic data to identify patterns, trends, and relationships.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of GIS projects and initiatives.
- Providing technical support and training to GIS users.
- Maintaining GIS databases and archives.
- Keeping abreast of advancements in GIS technology and best practices.
- Collaborating with other departments to integrate GIS data and functionality into business processes.
- A GIS Technician should have a bachelor's degree in geography, GIS, or a related field, although some positions may require only a certificate or associate's degree.
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency in GIS software and databases, are important for this role, as well as attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Good communication and teamwork skills are also important, as GIS Technicians often collaborate with other professionals to achieve project goals.
Key Requirements and Technology Experience: - Skills-CAD, GIS and Energy/Utility.
- Providing technical support to CAD and GIS Users.
- Resolve conflicts (G/Tech)
- Assist with critical errors (G/Tech)
- AutoEDMS file handling errors/issues (checkout/checkin)
- Software provisioning - manual installs and setup of MicroStation V8, AutoEDMS (v6.5 and v7), PlotWorks
- CAD software (Bentley MicroStation, Autodesk AutoCAD) and standard Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Visio) are important for this role, as well as attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Experience with geodatabases and underlying DBMS technology such as SQL Server and/or Oracle and proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python) are a plus.
