JOB SUMMARY:
RSP partners with K-12 school districts across the Midwest, utilizing data-driven methodologies to produce analyses, tables, and maps that support informed decision-making and enhance the student experience in the classroom. Our team consists of many different professional disciplines in the areas of GIS, demographics, statistics, and planning. This position will support the team and mission of RSP.
The GIS Technical Analyst (Geocoding, Data Analytics & Database Management) is responsible for processing geospatial data, managing geocoding workflows, and conducting data analytics to support business intelligence and decision-making. This role requires expertise in GIS software, geospatial databases, data processing tools (including Excel), and visualization techniques. The ideal candidate has a strong background in managing large datasets, integrating various data formats, and automating geospatial workflows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Geocoding & Address Data Management:
- Perform batch geocoding of large datasets using GIS software and APIs.
- Clean, validate, and standardize address data to improve geocoding accuracy.
- Develop and implement quality control procedures for address databases.
- Integrate geocoding services (Google Maps API, Esri, OpenStreetMap) into internal workflows.
Data Analytics & Visualization:
- Conduct spatial and statistical analysis to identify patterns, trends, and relationships.
- Develop interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI, Tableau, or ESRI Dashboards/Experience Builder.
- Integrate GIS data with business intelligence tools for deeper insights.
- Support predictive modeling and spatial forecasting projects.
- Design maps that will help the internal team and clients understand complex spatial and statistical analysis in a simple digestible format.
Database & Spreadsheet Management:
- Maintain, clean, and analyze large datasets in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, advanced formulas, and VBA scripting).
- Work with various database formats, including SQL databases (PostGIS, SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle Spatial).
- Transform and manage data from multiple sources (CSV, Excel, XML, JSON, Shapefiles, GeoJSON, KML).
- Automate data processing workflows using Python, SQL, and Excel macros.
GIS Data Integration & Support:
- Manage the integration of GIS data with enterprise databases and cloud-based services.
- Ensure compatibility between GIS data and other business applications.
- Provide GIS support to internal teams, troubleshoot technical issues, and document best practices.
- Develop scripts and automation tools for repetitive GIS tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in GIS geocoding, data analytics, and database management.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo) with expertise in geocoding.
- Strong experience with Excel, including pivot tables, advanced formulas, and VBA.
- Experience with database management and SQL queries (PostGIS, SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle).
- Knowledge of geospatial data formats (Shapefiles, GeoJSON, KML, CSV, XML).
- Scripting experience in Python (ArcPy, Pandas, Geopandas) and SQL for data processing.
- Familiarity with API integrations for geocoding and spatial analytics.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to communicate complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with excellent data quality assurance skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with cloud-based GIS services (AWS, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Knowledge of data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, ESRI Dashboards/Experience Builder).
- Understanding of data science techniques for spatial analysis.
- Experience in industries like logistics, real estate, marketing, or urban planning.
