As a GIS Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in supporting the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), leveraging your expertise to develop innovative solutions that directly contribute to vital environmental research and public service. In this role, you'll design and implement smart, scalable systems that power the flow of vital data across cloud and hybrid environments, contributing to high-impact projects that shape our understanding of the world. You'll collaborate with a dynamic, forward-thinking team to design intelligent data workflows and applications that support national research and drive innovation. By streamlining data ingestion, movement, and transformation, you'll leverage modern CI/CD pipelines, automation, and cutting-edge technologies to ensure fast, scalable, and efficient systems. From backend development to cloud-native architecture, your work will tackle complex challenges, delivering solutions that have a tangible, real-world impact.

This position will be Hybrid (can telework but able to travel to Rolla office)

Salary: $75,000 - $85,000

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in the field or a related area
  • Experienced with writing efficient SQL, managing PostgreSQL databases, and handling geospatial data to ensure accurate and fast data processing
  • Proficient in using Python to automate data workflows, making data management more efficient and seamless
  • Familiar with automating database provisioning and using GitLab to streamline continuous integration and delivery for faster, reliable deployment
  • Comfortable using AWS services like EC2, S3, and RDS to deploy, manage, and scale cloud applications and databases, ensuring reliability and performance in a cloud environment
  • AWS and ArcGIS certifications are preferred, demonstrating your expertise in cloud and geospatial technologies
