Position Summary
Lead GIS projects that involve highly complex spatial analysis using a variety of GIS software tools; develop and maintain ArcGIS geoprocessing models or write scripts to automate GIS processes; participate in the design and maintenance of GIS related databases; supervise work of lower level GIS staff as assigned, diagnose hardware and software problems; test, research, and assist with deployment of GIS software and hardware upgrades.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in geography or geographic information systems (GIS); and

Four (4) years of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) experience; and

To include one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge
  • Geographic Information Systems software (ESRI ArcGIS applications including, but not limited to: ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online)
  • Principles and uses of SQL queries, python functions, and ArcGIS Model builder
  • Microsoft products including Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint
  • Adobe products including Acrobat, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Geographic Information System database design and management; MS Access (or similar product) database design and maintenance
  • Mapping, data editing, and graphics techniques
  • Principals of project management
  • Principals of quality assurance and quality control
  • Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation
  • Principles of quality customer service
  • General understanding of a municipal planning department and various division functions and how GIS support is currently and could potentially be utilized in those functions
  • Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
  • Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations
