The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Long-Term Care partners with residents and other care providers to create a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment by providing direct and indirect care. Units include:
3 East: A 31-bed specialized unit working with Alzheimer's/dementia residents, tailoring care to meet their needs. Key aspects include the use of both verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, understanding the difficult behaviors associated with Alzheimer's/Dementia, and recognizing these behaviors as valid communication.
Transitional Rehabilitation Unit: Occupying the second floor of a facility, this 42-bed unit provides short-term, skilled nursing, and rehab services for patients recovering from fractures, joint replacements, back surgery, stroke, and other short-term illnesses or injuries where a rehab approach is beneficial. Nursing services often include IV therapy, wound care, and geriatric assessment and management.
3 West: A 42-bed long-term care unit that offers necessary care for residents needing long-term placement in a home-like environment.
Job Requirements
Education:- Associates in Nursing or Graduate of a Maine State Board approved LPN course.- Must hold a valid State of Maine or compact Licensed Practical Nurse license.
Experience:- 1-3 years of previous RN/LPN experience preferred.
Skills Required:- Medical terminology preferred.- Strong teamwork and communication skills required.- Ability to work well within a team of other care providers.- Flexibility required to cover 24 hours/day, 7 days per week.- Flexibility to float to other units as needed.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
