JOB DUTIES: This highly technical and professional position is responsible for administering and coordinating the Florida Forest Service's Geographic Information System (GIS), boundary line management, easement, and land lease programs as directed. Conducts field investigations, trains other staff, and documents activities as required. Develops and maintains the Geo databases that track wildfire, wildfire risk, prescribed fire, timber management, threatened and endangered species location and abundance, invasive exotics location and containment, hydrologic restoration progress, road maintenance and repairs, wildlife habitat management, recreation management, and boundary line issues, easements, etc. The position is responsible for creating and/or maintaining a GIS geodatabase for the State Forests as directed using data collected in-house or from other existing databases. Converts data from various sources for entry into the ArcGIS database, reformats existing data, collects data in the field using GPS and other technologies, and maintains overall database integrity. Creates and updates maps for all field operations issued state forest brochures and kiosks. Assists in the distribution of GIS data and tools to enhance efficiency of Florida Forest Service programs. Assists Resource and Operation managers, Forest Area Supervisors, Forestry Supervisors, Foresters, and Forest Rangers with the use and analysis of the Geo databases, GPS, and Asset Tracker System. Acts as liaison with FFS bureaus regarding the use and management of Geodatabases and acts as an IT coordinator. Researches the GIS needs of various forestry staff that will utilize GIS mapping and may need technical support. Provides GIS training regarding as requested or needed to FFS personnel. Works across agency lines with FWC, WMDs, DEP, and others as required. Provides GIS support to other partnering agencies as required. Assists with other state forest activities such as prescribed burning and evaluation, timber marking and inventory, tracking non-native invasive species, photographic monitoring, imperiled species monitoring and management, boundary maintenance, and educational programs. Provides wildfire and emergency response support as directed. Assists in developing smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning, and hazardous fuels mitigation plans. Assists in the enforcement of Florida's open burning laws and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Skilled in the use of Excel. Skilled in the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) using ESRI ArcGIS software (ArcGIS Desktop). Skilled in the use of data entry.
