Job Description:

As the General Manager at Mucci Farms, you will have the unique opportunity to be a part of a greenfield greenhouse and showcase your skills and expertise in the greenhouse industry. Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:


  • Responsible for overall performance of Operation including Sales Orders, Greenhouse, Pack Area, Shipping and Receiving, Maintenance, Quality, Health and Food Safety, Purchasing, Inventory and Human Resources
  • In conjunction with the Sales Team, assists in creating and achieving short- and long-range production forecasts within established budgets and profitability targets
  • Scale all operations of the business to ensure the proper utilization of capital/human resources
  • Partner with internal departments within Mucci Group to ensure a smooth transition of product to Mucci Pac when required to meet business demands
  • Responsible for Financial Performance of the Operation including the creation and monitoring of budgets, cost statements and profitability.
  • Responsible for Human Resource including the consistent application of all company policies and procedures including compliance with California Labor & Workforce Development Agency standards in the areas of labor standards, health and safety and violence and harassment
  • Responsible for Performance Management of all employees including setting production targets, goals and objectives and development planning
  • Responsible for creating a culture in which staff are engaged and supported but also held strictly accountable for effectively meeting production results
  • Effective leadership will lead to high levels of staff engagement, retention and productivity
  • Lead compliance initiatives with all local, provincial and federally mandated regulations including Cal/OSHA standards, building codes, fire safety, pesticide and chemical use standards and labor law standards

Greenhouse Responsibilities and Accountabilities:


  • Manages all Growers within the operation
  • Serves as a subject matter expert regarding peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and other vine crop production with grow light technology
  • Ensures all the growing aspects are managed for each phase including growing schedules, growing requirements, climate, irrigation, nutrient requirement and pest control
  • Oversee the identification and implementation of crop management practices to enhance quality of production and evaluate current and new production practices
  • Oversees labor requirements for harvesting and cleanup activities for current and future seasons
  • Produces production reports through Priva for presentation to Executive Management
  • Ensures overall quality of product meets customer specifications
  • Strives to improve product yield and quality to improve competitiveness in the marketplace

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture or equivalent education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum 10+ years' experience with at least 5 years as a Grower, and at least 5 years Manager in a high-tech glass greenhouse environment is required
  • Must have a strong understanding of plant growth, plant physiology and interaction with varying environmental conditions and requirements
  • Proven experience in overall greenhouse management
  • Strong leadership and performance management skills
  • Must be able to present information in a clear and concise manner to various levels of the organization in English
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor others
  • Proven ability to build and retain a positive work culture
  • Previous experience with startups and greenfield site experience would be preferred
  • Proven ability to multitask and change priorities based on business needs
  • Proven ability to meet strict timelines and deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate, (speaking, writing, reading) in Spanish would be strongly preferred

Physical Abilities:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs
  • Must be able to lift material regularly up to 14 kg / 30 lbs; and occasionally up to 23 kg / 50lbs
  • Able to climb stairs and stand on feet for an extended period of time
  • Work in a temperature-controlled environment of approximately 25 C / 80 F
