General Manager (Business Leader)

Full-Time Permanent Leadership Role
We're looking for a General Manager to lead one of the UK's most respected sailing clubs. Following on from a successful tenure the new GM will work closely with members, volunteers and permanent staff to keep operations running smoothly. About Us
Hayling Island Sailing Club (HISC) is a premier members' club with a proud sailing heritage and a strong sense of community. Our exceptional waterside location, extensive facilities, and high-calibre events programme make us a leading venue for sailing at every level-from grassroots to international regattas.
The Role
As General Manager, you'll be the strategic and operational leader of the Club. You'll oversee all aspects of its day-to-day running-marine, events, food and beverage, facilities, finance and member services-ensuring a seamless, high-quality experience for members and guests alike.
Your responsibilities will include:
  1. Providing clear leadership to a team of 20 permanent and 50+ seasonal staff
  2. Working closely with the Commodore and Committees to deliver the Club's strategic plan
  3. Driving revenue growth through proactive marketing and year-round commercial development
  4. Championing member engagement and service excellence across all areas
  5. Overseeing budgets, compliance, safety standards, and estate management
  6. Being a visible and approachable leader, especially during weekends and Club events
This is not a Monday-to-Friday desk job-weekend and evening work is essential.
What We're Looking For
You'll be a confident, proactive and diplomatic leader with:
  1. Proven success in general management, ideally within sport, leisure, hospitality or marine settings
  2. Strong operational, financial and team leadership skills
  3. A hands-on approach with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
  4. Experience in service-focused environments with high member or guest expectations
  5. A track record of empowering teams and driving performance
Knowledge of sailing and the wider marine industry is a real bonus-whether personal or professional. You'll understand the rhythm of club life and the value of community.
