Job Description

Location: Northamptonshire region, overseeing multiple UK sites

Budget Responsibility: Approximately £50 million, including open and closed book retail transport

Key Responsibilities
  • Resource Management and Control: Develop fleet build and renewal strategies; recruit and retain staff to meet KPIs.
  • Safety, Legal, and Policy Compliance: Ensure adherence to fleet audits, standards, and health & safety regulations.
  • Operational Solutions: Manage yard operations, trunking, cross-docking, dispatch, and last-mile delivery; implement value-added backhaul solutions.
  • Budgetary Controls: Manage budgets, achieve KPIs, and pursue continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strategic Planning: Define and communicate contract strategies aligned with business goals; translate strategies into site-level actions.
  • Business Growth: Drive organic growth through supply chain analysis and joint planning; support new initiatives for sustainable growth.
  • Procurement and Management: Oversee procurement and subcontractor relationships, including trunking to Ireland.
  • Representation and Collaboration: Represent the contract at conferences; foster collaboration and innovation.
The Successful Candidate
  • Senior GM with experience managing large open book budgets
  • Extensive transport and retail experience, either end-user or 3PL
  • Proven leadership across all site and customer operations
  • Track record of operational excellence and innovative performance improvements
  • Knowledge of contract lifecycle management, including start-ups and closures
  • Customer relationship management skills and commercial acumen
  • Experience managing complex, multi-site contracts
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage conflicts and complex IR issues
  • Strategic agility and technological proficiency to enhance performance
