Delta's Revenue Technology, Loyalty, and Data Analytics organization unites several groups to achieve strategic business goals and technical solutions that create opportunities for us to innovate on behalf of our customers. The General Manager, Data Operations oversees the end-to-end data operations, ensuring data availability, quality, and security. This role is crucial for optimizing Data & AI platforms, automating pipelines, and facilitating the seamless flow of data between various systems and users. They will also have experience with the full DataOps lifecycle, including ingestion and ETL processes into databases, data lakes, or data warehouses.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Manage end-to-end operations of our cloud-based Data & AI platforms, including the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Lakes, AI/Machine Learning, Data Pipelines, ETL, Business Intelligence, and Streaming Platforms.
  2. Be an innovative problem-solver with a passion for developing and managing high-performing teams.
  3. Manage AWS-based cloud infrastructure, data engineering, and data operations.
  4. Lead and motivate teams to achieve objectives and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  5. Develop and implement comprehensive strategies that drive data operations success.
  6. Evaluate software requests to determine where existing requirements intersect or can be used with new products as needed.
  7. Estimate the technical debt of creating new features or systems, interpret specifications, troubleshoot, and define software solutions.
  8. Collaborate with data engineers, stream processing specialists, API developers, architecture teams, and analysts to design scalable systems.
  9. Lead the development of best practices and design patterns for data engineering, operations, and analytics, staying current with industry trends.
  10. Build and operate software across our data platform, including event-driven data processing, storage, and serving through APIs.
  11. Identify and remediate security and resiliency risks for Data & AI platforms.
  12. Innovate to make our data platform more scalable, resilient, and reliable, working across teams to implement ideas.
  13. Work with data analysts and stakeholders to make data accessible and understandable.
  14. Ensure data quality by implementing reusable data quality frameworks.
  15. Collaborate with other data engineering teams to roll out new capabilities.
  16. Build processes and tools to maintain Machine Learning pipelines in production.
  17. Develop and enforce data engineering, security, and data quality standards through automation.
  18. Manage cloud costs and improve efficiency.
  19. Ensure data accessibility and security, partnering with security and compliance teams.
  20. Manage the lifecycle of database technologies, balancing operability, scale, and reliability.
  21. Build documentation, automation, operational tooling, and testing capabilities to validate deployments and system requirements.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Statistics, Engineering, Business Administration, or similar.
  • 15+ years of experience building and scaling data platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience with AWS, Glue, Airflow.
  • Expertise in data replication and integration tools (eg, AWS DMS).
  • Expertise in data lake and warehouse tools (eg, Redshift, Snowflake).
  • Expertise in analytics tools (eg, Spark, Databricks).
  • Passion for data and deriving insights for decision-making.
  • Experience with SQL and Python.
  • Experience with BI and data visualization tools (eg, Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Deep understanding of API connectivity and streaming architecture.
  • Exceptional leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to ambiguity.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in relevant fields.
  • Knowledge of LLMs and Generative AI (eg, RAG, Vector Stores).
  • Experience with MLOps tools like MLflow.
  • Airline industry experience preferred.
