The General Ledger (GL) Manager is responsible for overseeing all general ledger operations, including Accounts Payable (AP), ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and internal policies. The role plays a critical part in the month-end and year-end close processes, supports audit preparation, and provides strategic financial insight to leadership. This position supervises a small team of accountants and AP staff and collaborates cross-functionally with billing, payroll, and financial operations.

Essential Duties

  • Manage monthly and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Prepare, review, and approve journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Collaborate with the CFO on budgeting and financial planning.
  • Produce monthly internal financial reports and perform variance analysis.
  • Oversee invoice processing, disbursements, and vendor relationships.
  • Ensure proper coding, approval, and timely payment of all expenses.
  • Monitor AP aging, create and enforce payment controls, and ensure policy compliance.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop accounting and AP staff.
  • Support ERP system upgrades through testing and creation of use cases.
  • Identify areas for process improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of U.S GAAP.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience.
  • CPA designation a plus (or in progress)

Education: Bachelor's degree required, preferable in Accounting, Finance or related field.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
