Job Summary

The General Insurance/Risk Coordinator provides administrative and technical support to the Risk Manager. Coordinating all aspects of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe Risk Management Program. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting Risk Manager in ensuring adequate insurance coverage for all of the Tribe's needs. Additionally, this position will assist the Risk Manager in the implementation, training, and coordination of all safety and incident prevention programs. The incumbent will process Workman's Comp claims, liability insurance claims, create requisitions, and work with Finance on allocation of cost. The General Insurance/Risk Coordinator will assist and provide support to the Risk Manager and the Tribal Insurance Committee, which provides basic oversight over all areas of insurance coverage.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Process reported injury and/or vehicle accident claims for employees or community members as needed on an on-call basis.
  2. Collect new asset information from departments as needed to ensure that adequate coverage is obtained.
  3. Assist Risk Manager with the handling of claims and recommends settlements in accordance with Tribal policies and requirements for claims involved in litigation.
  4. Participate in the inspection and review of PYT operations and facilities for risk management provisions and recommend appropriate corrective action.
  5. Coordinate with Risk Manager and with PYT departments to assure that appropriate security, safety, and hazardous materials procedures are implemented and compliant with federal regulations
  6. Create Requisitions to process payments as needed for Risk Management needs.
  7. Maintain records of Risk Management file.
  8. File insurance documents as needed to ensure Risk Management compliance.
  9. Assists Risk Manager in Conducting investigations and research incidents resulting in insurance claims.
  10. Issue and file Certificates of Insurance for the Tribe as requested.
  11. Assist Risk Manager with tracking and maintenance of insurance inventory reports.
  12. Work with insurance carrier; ensure all new construction or major expansion plans are carefully reviewed for adequate or required safety and insurance coverage.
  13. Prepare and issue reports to Risk manager and management for all major losses and the frequency thereof that have an unfavorable effect upon the insurance premiums of the Tribe.
  14. Be available for after-hours post-accident drug testing.
  15. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:
  • Applicable regulatory agency standards in environmental health, occupational health, safety, fire, security, and public liability.
  • Workers Compensation, specialized incident and safety prevention training, consultation, data reviews, and occasional liability/safety standard information.
  • Various Safety Businesses, review of current safety materials, equipment, software, PPE's, corrective systems, regulatory compliance supplies, and training modules.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the type and require amount of insurance coverage.
  • Yaqui culture, customs, resources, and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Provide customers both internal and external with excellent customer service.
  • Development and implementation of policies and procedures to insure adequate insurance coverage, safety and security of all tribal assets.
  • Designing and implementing policies and procedures relating to safety, worker's compensation, motor vehicles, and insurance.
  • Computer spreadsheets and database operations.
  • Make sound judgments.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Data entry operations; Identify and correct discrepancies. Sort through and organize large volumes of data.
  • Perform duties outdoors in other than normal condition.
  • Ability to maneuver in small spaces, and climb ladders, wear a respirator.
  • Exercise judgment in making policy recommendations and discretion maintaining confidentially of information.
  • Ability to maintain confidential files and records correctly.
  • Ability to communicate policies and procedures clearly and correctly.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ensure accurate compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Tribal Council, Department Directors, employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Network references for all aspects of risk management, safety training, corrective and preventive proactive measures.
  • Conduct special studies and involving safety engineers for improvements in system and procedural effectiveness and the resolution of existing or anticipated operating problems.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.
Education, Certifications and Experience Required

Required: High School Diploma or GED and Three years of experience in administrative work, research, investigations, or a similar role within the insurance industry or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Preferred: Associate's degree in a related field and Five years of experience in Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Safety, Security, and Public Liability

Special Requirements:
  • Must obtain OSHA10 card.
  • This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends.
  • Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain one within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License.
  • May be required to obtain other various certifications depending on assignment.
