JOB TITLE: General Education Teacher Aide DEPARTMENT/BUILDING: As designated by the Director of Elementary or Secondary Education
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator GENERAL SUMMARY: Saginaw Public Schools General Education Teacher Aides are responsible for assisting in the supervision and instruction of General Education students, under the supervision of a Teacher, in a regular classroom.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of instructional procedures and practices
- Knowledge of basic math, grammar and punctuation
- Knowledge of child development and learning styles
- Knowledge of age appropriate activities
- Knowledge of behavior patterns and development limitations of general education students
- Skilled in operating classroom equipment, including related software
- Skilled is utilizing a variety of equipment used in the care and handling of students with disabilities
- Skilled in accurate record keeping
- Ability to schedule activities and collate data
- Ability to use job related equipment
- Ability to adapt to changing work priorities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work with constant interruptions
- Ability to understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the supervision of the Teacher
- Assist student(s) with social and/or emotional needs
- Confer with the Teacher, as requested, in evaluating student(s) progress and coordinating tests and homework assignments
- Assist in implementing academic plans
- Instruct student(s) one-on-one or in small groups to assist the Teacher in implementing goals for remediation of student deficiencies and ensuring student success
- Maintain files and/or records
- Monitor student(s) during lunch, recess, field trips or as designated by the Teacher to ensure a safe and positive learning environment
- Perform record keeping and clerical function
- Report observations and incidents relating to specific students concerning unacceptable behavior
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns
- Assist other staff as required to ensure an efficient and effective learning environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: - A minimum of 60 semester hours of credit at an accredited community college or university. OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent and MUST take and pass the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment with a score of 460. Contact Delta College for testing schedule at
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Attend any training as mandated
WORKING CONDITIONS: - School environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust
or the like

CURRICULA RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the Teacher in delivering instructional objectives for a given subject and/or classroom
METHOD OF EVALUATION: The Building Administrator, in coordination with the Teacher, if applicable, evaluates this position every year. The evaluation form is available from the Human Resources and Labor Relations Department.
