Description The Lighthouse of Houston is seeking a blind/low vision, veteran candidate for their Space Force Base Location in Lompoc, California. The candidate requirements aligns with the LOH Organization mission.
Job Description Summary: The General Clerk I (SFB) position is a services contract for the Vandenburg Space Force Base. This position is primarily responsible for providing mailroom services to the Temporary Mail Center at Vandenberg Space Force. This position must also comply with the Vandenburg Space Forces Bases rules and federal government requirements.
The General Clerk I (SFP) must lead by example, and lead with humility, trust, and respect. It is important for individuals to be committed to a continuous learning environment and be a champion for change, with a teamwork mentality.

QualificationsRoles and Responsibilities: - Follows all safety protocols and guidelines for promoting a safe work environment and apply good day to day housekeeping of work area.
- Receives, processes, distributes and directs regular mail from and to the United States Postal Service (USPS) and various small package delivery service providers (i.e., FEDEX, UPS, etc.)
- Secures packages that are unable to be delivered, maintains various files, and manages and maintains mail receptacles.
- Preserves and protects the security of the mail at all times from unauthorized opening, inspection, reading contents or covers, tampering, delays, loss, or other unauthorized acts.
- Maintains a clean and neat work environment and adheres to all safety guidelines of the company and the customer.
- Provides notification and storage of packages for dormitory residents and General Delivery customers.
- Transports and distributes mail between the United States Postal Service (USPS) and the dormitories.
- Provides customer service including managing receptacles; dispense parcels and/or packages.
- Serve as the liaison for customers to the USPS and small package delivery companies. Ensure accounts are created as necessary with FEDEX, UPS, USPS, etc.
- Ensures documents are prioritized, sorted, placed and delivered to correct dormitory area.
- Assists customers with any concerns or issues and ensures all customer concerns have been addressed and resolved.
- Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day to day work activities.
- Maintains positive working relationships and fosters cooperative work environment.
- Follows all confidentiality rules to preserve data quality and reduce chance for information or compromise.
- Performs other related job duties as needed.
Education, Licensure and Experience: - High school diploma or GED
- Prior mailroom knowledge and experience preferred.
- Must be able to pass security clearance for the space force base.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities - Strong level of confidentiality due to sensitivity of materials and information needed.
- Good computer skills and able to adapt to different software such as Microsoft Outlook email client and Microsoft Word text processor.
- Ability and flexibility in using mailroom devices such as printers, computer systems, client's mail logging system, meter mail machine and other sortation devices as needed.
- Ability to research and look up client information using software and programs provided by the organization.
- Good communication skills for communicating with Space Force Base and team members for follow up on mail issues/concerns.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize and work at a high level of accuracy.
- High multi-tasking and organizational skills, time-management, and attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze data for ensuring correct scanning documents are submitted.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, adapt to fast-paced work conditions and changes and expectations of the clients.
- Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
- Ability to use computer, printer, scanner, telephone, and use of assistive technology such as Zoom Text, Jaws, or other Blind/Low Vision assistive technology aids.
Supervisory Responsibilities: - This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.
- This position requires constant movement and physical demands with the ability to walk, bend and pick up mail batches for sorting and distribution. This position may also require some lifting of boxes of 10 to 40 pounds. Lifting assistance can be provided for boxes greater than 50 pounds.
