Position OverviewTeachers of First-Year Writing courses who are selected will work on designing, developing, and documenting teaching materials that benefit the FYW program, meet the FYW course goals, and serve future teachers.
Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels . However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).
Job Description100%: Graduate students will design teaching materials and revise materials after feedback from the Director of Composition. They will create explanatory documents to enable other teachers to use those materials in their classes as well. All documents, materials, and explanations will be posted to the FYW Canvas site or otherwise made available to other FYW teachers.Required Qualifications
Graduate students in the Department of English at the University of Kansas who are not scheduled to teach during the summer- Proposal selected by review committee (see application instructions below)
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments to enroll in 1 credit hour DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
