Apply for this Job

We're hiring a Developer because we need you to help accomplish our mission-assisting independent Sales Agents to navigate merchant services with a partner who passionately pursues something rarely found in our industry: an AgentFirst paradigm. PayCompass challenges the status quo in every aspect of our business, and we need a developer who operates the same way.

We believe that merchant service sales professionals are growing small businesses one solution at a time. And one of the best ways to do that is by providing a full toolbox of solutions and services without the messiness of inefficient processes, sales quotas, or laughable commissions.

That's why our mission is AgentFirst. We support independent sales Agents as they build and support their portfolio of clients. We view each Agent as our customer-keeping them safe, supported, and successful allows them to do the same for their merchants.

And that is where you come in.

We are seeking an experienced Full Stack Web Developer to join our on-site team in Phoenix, AZ. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing web-based applications with a primary focus on PHP technologies. As our systems grow, you will also have the opportunity to work on projects utilizing Java and .Net Core, so experience with those technologies is a strong plus. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of delivering scalable, high-quality web solutions and is comfortable working across the front-end and back-end.

What will you do in this role?

As a Developer, you'll be responsible for:

  • Developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining web applications using PHP.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
  • Maintaining and optimizing existing codebases for performance and scalability.
  • Building and maintaining APIs and integrations with third-party services.
  • Utilizing modern frameworks and tools for both front-end and back-end development.
  • Contributing to architectural decisions and the overall software development strategy.
  • Debugging and resolving application issues and improving application performance.
  • Participating in code reviews and team knowledge sharing.
  • Staying up to date with industry trends and best practices.

What will you learn in this role?

If you come from a traditional organization, our pace of innovation, action, and iteration might be a little uncomfortable at first. You'll learn to move fast, pivot quickly, and put zero value into sunk cost.

If you come from a corporate background, this will feel like a breath of fresh air-no bureaucracy, no endless meetings, just real impact with real autonomy.

If you come from the start-up world, this will feel like home, with a focus on passionately pursuing the success of our Agents (which helps us succeed too.), without all the uncertainty that can come from a start-up environment.

Who will you work with?

You will work directly with David Noel, our Director of Technology, and collaborate closely with our Chief Sales Officer and other developers. Cross departmentally you'll work with our Sales and Support departments, and the C-Suite leadership team.

Where will you work?

You'll work at PayCompass HQ in Tempe, Arizona. Our team has a fantastic culture, and we genuinely love being around each other (and our dogs).

What does PayCompass do and why?

PayCompass is a privately-owned, self-funded financial services firm and one of the fastest-growing companies in the payments industry. It was founded by industry veteran Justin Volrath and his wife, Nini. They firmly believed that sales professionals deserved a place with the widest possible range of solutions, the most agent-friendly sales contracts, and the highest level of support without sacrificing their independence.

In a nutshell, a place that would always be that puts people over profits.

We believe that no sales Agent should ever have to walk away from a deal because they can't offer the right solution.

We believe that no sales Agent should have to worry about how their compensation will get shortchanged, undercut, or eliminated.

We believe that partnering with the best technology, hardware, and service providers gives our sales Agents the tools to succeed.

We believe that when we can't find the right solutions, we'll launch our own.

We believe that happy, supported, and successful sales Agents lead to happy, supported, and successful merchants.

What makes you a great fit?

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in full stack web development with a focus on PHP.
  • Strong understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related frameworks like Vue.js, React, or Angular).
  • Experience with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
  • Proficiency in developing RESTful APIs.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns.

Bonus Points

  • Experience developing applications using Java (Spring Boot) and/or .Net Core.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Exposure to containerization tools like Docker.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
