About the Role
Our client, a leading investment management firm, is hiring its first in-house Data Engineer/Scientist-a unique, high-impact opportunity to build a greenfield data function from the ground up.
This full stack role spans backend infrastructure and frontend analytics. You'll take full ownership of the data ecosystem, designing and implementing architecture, selecting tools and platforms, and laying the foundation for data-driven decision making across the organization.
You'll work closely with stakeholders to build scalable pipelines, ingest and model data from diverse sources, and surface insights via custom dashboards and reporting tools. As the systems mature, you'll also lead the charge into AI and automation, including natural language model integration and internal tooling.
Job Title: Full Stack Data Engineer / Data Scientist
Location: Menlo Park, CA (Hybrid - Onsite Tuesday to Thursday)
Compensation: $140,000 - $190,000 base + $40,000 - $60,000 target bonus (Total Comp: $190,000 - $250,000)

What You'll Do
- Architect and implement the firm's first data infrastructure, including selecting and managing data warehouse/lake and BI tools
- Design and build robust ETL/ELT pipelines and APIs for seamless data integration
- Structure and model data to support dashboards, analytics, and operational reporting
- Collaborate cross-functionally to identify business needs and deliver tailored data solutions
- Develop and maintain frontend data visualizations and dashboards
- Explore and prototype AI/ML applications, including natural language models, to automate workflows and enhance business processes
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data science, or full stack data roles
- Strong proficiency in modern data stacks (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, dbt, Airflow, etc.)
- Proven experience designing end-to-end data solutions-from ingestion to visualization
- Solid programming skills in Python (or similar), SQL, and familiarity with APIs
- Experience with machine learning/AI models and automation tools
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across business units
- Background in finance, wealth management, or banking strongly preferred
