Sherwood Urgent Care is seeking a dedicated Front Desk Medical Office Specialist / Medical Assistant to join our PRN team. The ideal candidate will be experienced in Front Desk operations (such as patient check-in and insurance verification) and possess some clinical experience in a healthcare setting. Flexibility in scheduling is highly desirable.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Front Desk Medical Office Specialist is responsible for welcoming patients, managing patient files, and providing basic clinical care aligned with your medical training. Full-time team members generally work 36-40 hours per week, including every-other-weekend; our PRN staff members are scheduled as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties reflect the core expectations of this position and may not be exhaustive. Additional responsibilities may be assigned.
  • Greet patients promptly upon arrival and provide assistance during the registration process.
  • Handle multi-line phone inquiries, manage filing, faxing, scanning, and complete daily patient callbacks.
  • Check in and discharge patients, supporting clinical staff and ensuring the office is securely closed at the end of each shift.
  • Collect and verify patient insurance information and demographics, process payments, and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Communicate wait times effectively to patients and guide them through the treatment process.
  • Address patient concerns efficiently and escalate urgent issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Conduct follow-up calls with a focus on timely patient care.
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, medical history, and current medications accurately.
  • Assist with patient transfers and procedures under direct supervision of healthcare providers.
  • Ensure all patient visit documentation is completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain clean and organized patient areas throughout the day.
  • Manage cash and check reconciliation as well as nightly deposit drop-offs.
  • Uphold a professional appearance and a tidy work environment.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations diligently.
WHAT'S REQUIRED?
High school diploma or equivalent education is essential. A minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical office setting and a Medical Assistant certificate or equivalent experience are required. Candidates should be familiar with basic computer applications and willing to learn electronic medical record systems. BLS Certification is mandatory.
