Description

Join our dynamic team at Leidos Defense Sector as an FPGA Development Engineer, where you will play a key role in pioneering innovative solutions to tackle complex challenges.

Your main responsibilities will include architecting, implementing, and testing cutting-edge firmware solutions tailored for FPGAs and their associated circuitry. Strong skills in assisting design teams with circuit and PCBA design, embedded processor or SoC designs, along with performing technical trade studies and evaluating new technology enhancements will be advantageous. Experience in designing and implementing DSP functions is highly desired.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience with FPGA designs utilizing VHDL in Xilinx Vivado, optimizing designs for resource efficiency, power consumption, and high performance. A solid grasp of timing closure techniques, timing constraints, and writing simulation test benches for FPGA designs to ensure functionality, performance, and timing accuracy is essential. Familiarity with ModelSim is a plus, along with a strong understanding of digital design principles, FPGA architectures, and high-speed communication protocols.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited institution, accompanied by 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in embedded Software/Firmware design.
  • High proficiency in C/C , VHDL, and TCL.
  • Demonstrated expertise in FPGA system design and testing from architecture through implementation.
  • Familiarity with leading Xilinx FPGA families and design tools including 7-series FPGAs, Ultrascale+, Vivado, and Xilinx IP cores.
  • Experience with various high-speed serial communication standards (e.g., Aurora, 10Ge, PCIe, DDR4/3/2/1, JESD204B).
  • Capability to develop and implement FPGA-optimized versions of DSP algorithms (e.g., modulation/demodulation, PLLs, filters, image processing).
  • Familiarity with standard internal interfaces such as AXI4, AXI4-Stream, and AXI4-Lite.
  • Self-motivated problem solver experienced in multi-disciplinary team collaboration.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with testing instruments, equipment, and debugging methods.
  • Candidates must be willing to relocate to the Shalimar, FL area and be a US Citizen with the ability to attain or maintain a Final Secret Clearance.
Other Qualifications:
  • Preference for candidates holding a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • 15+ years of related experience preferred.
  • Experience with SoC designs such as Zynq and Zynq Ultrascale+, particularly in architecting and interfacing with peripherals, interrupts, and relevant bus architectures.
  • Experience with embedded operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of digital, analog, and mixed signal electronics, components, and interface/communication standards.
  • Experience with FPGA PCBA hardware design.
