Plant Engineer - Foundry (Green Sand)
Summary: We're seeking an experienced Plant Engineer to lead maintenance and engineering efforts in a green sand foundry operation. This role will oversee the reliability of all plant equipment and infrastructure, with a strong focus on minimizing downtime, improving process efficiency, and ensuring safe, quality production. The ideal candidate brings a solid background in industrial maintenance within a foundry environment and is comfortable leading a team. This position reports to the Plant Manager and Assistant Plant Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead maintenance and engineering initiatives across the foundry, focusing on green sand systems, molding lines, and core-making equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical/electrical issues in high-heat environments and troubleshoot foundry-specific equipment such as shakeouts, sand mixers, conveyors, and furnaces.
- Supervise, train, and develop maintenance team members.
- Oversee plant utilities including dust collection, air systems, and cooling water systems.
- Manage maintenance budgets, schedule PMs, and track downtime trends.
- Contribute to capital planning, equipment upgrades, and plant improvements.
- Maintain strong vendor and contractor relationships for specialized foundry services.
- Work closely with operations and quality to ensure casting consistency and production goals are met.
- Ensure all equipment and practices align with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for recurring mechanical failures.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or related).
- 10 years in heavy industrial maintenance, with at least 5 in a foundry (green sand preferred).
- Hands-on experience with molding lines, sand handling systems, furnaces, hydraulic/pneumatic controls, and casting equipment.
- Strong skills in diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and reliability engineering.
- Proficient in Excel and CMMS software; strong data analysis and reporting skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities.
