Salary: $140,000 - $200,000 per year

Our mission is to create the first comprehensive platform that combines top-tier insurance offerings with world-class software so commercial businesses can manage risk and prevent losses. We started with the $10T commercial construction industry and are expanding to new verticals in 2025. To date, Shepherd has raised $20M+ from top-tier VCs including Y-Combinator, Susa Ventures, Spark Capital, Costanoa Ventures, Era Ventures, Greenlight RE, and Intact Ventures.

To accomplish this, we're building a platform that incentivizes our clients to adopt the best tools when they buy our coverage. Across construction and other commercial markets, technology is available but fundamentally underutilized, despite the potential for improving loss outcomes and stopping this crisis.

Job DetailsResponsibilities:
- Own a large area of our product experience, in each vertical.
- Work across the stack, even across different disciplines (e.g., underwriting, design, product management).
- Play an integral role in building our culture as the company grows.
- Collaborate closely with PM, Mo (CTO), and the insurance team (underwriters, actuaries, and more.).
What We Look For:
- Previously shipped high-quality products daily at an early startup or as a founding engineer.
- Experience working exclusively at big tech companies.
- Proficiency in backend development with Node.js, Postgres, Redis, Typescript, and GraphQL APIs.
- Expertise in frontend development with React, Next.js, Typescript, and GraphQL.
- A passion for mentoring other engineers and fostering their growth.
- Interest in the built-world and improving construction safety and productivity.
- Ability to wear multiple hats while solving problems; as an engineer, product manager, and designer.
- 4 - 8 years of experience as a fullstack software engineer at fast-growing companies.
- Desired technologies: React, Next.js, Typescript, GraphQL, Node.js, Postgres, Redis, GraphQL APIs.
