Founding Backend Engineer - Infrastructure

We're looking for a Founding Backend Engineer to join an early-stage AI startup backed by a strong technical vision and high-growth potential. You'll work directly on scaling systems that leverage heavy GPU usage, shape our backend infrastructure, and help define the company's engineering culture from the ground up.
What You'll Do:
- Own and scale backend systems powering AI workloads in production environments
- Build out backend web APIs, including Postgres databases and GraphQL schemas
- Design and deploy infrastructure ranging from Kubernetes clusters to serverless containers using Docker
- Collaborate with a small, high-agency team to make key architectural decisions
- Implement DevOps pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions and Pulumi
- Balance rapid iteration with long-term stability and scalability
What We're Looking For:
- 7+ years of backend experience in high-scale production environments with GPU-intensive infrastructure
- Proven success at AI startups or early-stage companies during periods of rapid scaling
- End-to-end ownership of backend/infrastructure scaling initiatives in prior roles
- Strong experience with:
- Node.js, TypeScript, Python
- Postgres, GraphQL
- Kubernetes, Docker, Pulumi
- Cloud platforms (ideally GCP)
- A startup mindset: high agency, thrives in ambiguity, excited to build and take ownership
