As a lumber yard worker, your responsibilities include maintaining adequate inventory and pulling special orders from the yard. Your duties include helping to load and unload shipments, checking that the yard is clear of obstructions, and making sure that different wood is cataloged correctly and stored in the proper place. You typically work under the supervision of a yard manager.
To become a lumber yard worker, you need a high school diploma or GED certificate, and the ability to operate a forklift. Additional qualifications include excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail and expertise using carpentry equipment. You must also have physical stamina and strength to be able to lift and pull at least 50 pounds.
