GENERAL SUMMARY
The Food Service Worker - Lead aids management in the overall daily operations of the health systems food service; including food preparation, food serving, food ordering and/or general maintenance in a kitchen or dining area in accordance with Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD) company policy/procedures, federal, state and local regulations. Reports to department leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Based on corporate and client objectives, help develop plans to meet these objectives in conjunction with their manager.
Plans, organizes, assigns, and supervises daily operations of Food Service Workers and other food service employees; ensures that food service staff are preparing and serving food at the proper time and with minimal waste according to food safety and sanitation standards and policies set by the health system and the state.
Reviews plans daily to meet storage, production and service needs with the General Manager and production staff.
On a continual basis assist in training staff and/or others in food preparation, sanitation, and safety procedures.
Responsible for monitoring and maintaining optimal utilization of labor.
Participates in food service/cafeteria surveys and have direct contact with customers to be aware of customer acceptance of the food program.
Develops working rapport with the staff as well as internal and external customers.
Acts on customer complaints, suggestions, or requests immediately and following up when necessary.
In accordance with company policy, state, federal, and local regulatory requirements maintain high standards of cleanliness for work areas / stations, dining room and personal work areas.
Ensures compliance with company policy, standards of operation and Employee Handbook.
Maintains all records and documentation necessary for regulatory compliance and in accordance with CHKD policies and procedures.
May be required to perform any position within the department with proper instruction and guidance and/or training.
Trains team members, provides guidance, support, and mentors to ensure optimal performance and productivity.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Required Licenses and/or Certifications
Current City of Norfolk food handling training required at time of hire.
Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications
None preferred.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Prior food service experience required .
At time of hire, a record of completion for all education, licenses, training and/or certifications is required.
Continuous re-certification and/or maintenance of state licensure , certification, educational and application requirements is required during employment. Prior food service experience required .
Preferred Education and Experience
One year lead experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and understanding of public health, safety and proper food handling and sanitation standards and procedures.
Familiar with commercial food service operations and practices, cash handling principles and practices; inventory management principles and practices; commercial food service equipment; menu planning and development principles.
Highly motivated, enthusiastic team player who takes initiative.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced , fluid environment.
Possesses strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills as well as, the ability to interact with and build collegial relationships with diverse individuals.
Increased Security Clearance Required for Job Role in Children's Pavilion: FBI fingerprinting, criminal background check, and Child Protective Services registry search.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Noisy and distracting kitchen / food service environment with regular exposure to cold and hot temperatures, such as working near ovens or retrieving food from freezers. Often exposed to hazardous situations and conditions that can produce cuts or minor burns.
