Title: Food Service Worker
Reports To: Director of Operations
Compensation: $16 - $19 per hour
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Calendar: 10-Month ( 35 hours per week)

Our School

Houston Classical Charter School ("Houston Classical") was chartered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to open in Houston in August 2020, beginning with kindergarten and first grade. The school has an accomplished and committed Board, which includes a founding Board and a Head of School. We are looking for experienced, dedicated, and motivated individuals who are excited by the challenge of being part of a new school. The Role

As a Food Service Worker, you will contribute to the smooth operation of the school's food program by preparing and serving nutritious meals. You will ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students and staff in the school cafeteria.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve meals according to menus and recipes, ensuring food is served on time and in appropriate portions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and cleaning equipment.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, dishwashers, and mixers safely and effectively.
  • Follow food safety protocols for food storage, handling, and preparation to prevent contamination.
  • Assist in receiving and storing food deliveries, ensuring proper inventory management and rotation.
  • Ensure meal presentation is appealing and meets school nutrition standards.
  • Follow established procedures for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the cafeteria area.
  • Adhere to dietary restrictions or special meal plans for students as needed.
  • Assist with general food service tasks, including restocking food and supplies during meal service.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance food handling and safety knowledge.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by the Director of Operations, Operations Coordinator, and Executive Leadership Team.
Qualifications
  • Must have or be eligible and willing to obtain a Food Handler's License.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on teamwork.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience in food service or a school setting is preferred.
  • Willingness to follow instructions and take initiative when needed.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in maintaining food safety and cleanliness.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude while interacting with students and staff.
