Alsea School District has an opening for a Food Service Worker at the brick-and-mortarschool in Alsea, Oregon,
starting in August 2025. This hourly position is 4 hours a day, 16 hours per week position, and works on student
contact days. Hours outside of student contact days may be added for trainings and deliveries.

Closing Date: Open Until Filled

Salary Range: $14.79 - $17.68 DOE

Qualifications and/or Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Oregon Food Handlers Certificate required.
  • Experience in the preparation and serving of food in a commercial setting desired.
  • General knowledge of the best methods of preparing and cooking foods in large quantities; ability to adjust recipes to the quantity required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend basic written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of operating equipment found in kitchens.
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs, i.e. Email, Word, Excel.
  • Willingness to attend different training courses as recommended by the superintendent and/or designee.
  • Complete all district required trainings as required by the superintendent and/or designee (i.e. SafeSchools, Civil Rights in Food Service, etc.)
  • Successful completion of clean background check including fingerprinting.
Reports to: Superintendent, and/or designee

Supervises: None

Job Goal: To prepare and serve quality food to students in a quick and pleasant manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plans and assists in carrying out the preparation of all baked items and some cooked items.
  • Performs the major cooking tasks in preparing school meals in accordance with planned menus.
  • Performs daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions are met.
  • Reports inferior quality of food or faulty equipment to the Food Service Coordinator.
  • Prepares food according to a planned menu and tested, uniform recipes, and determines if the finished product is of the best quality both in flavor and appearance before it is served.
  • Records all food requisitions from the storeroom under the supervision of the Food Service Coordinator.
  • Serving of food and cleaning of dishes and equipment.
  • Arranges for proper storage of food supplies and sets standards of efficiency and sanitation in food preparation.
  • Performs major cleaning of refrigerators and storerooms on regularly scheduled intervals under the supervision of the Food Service Coordinator.
  • See that all kitchen paperwork is done accurately and timely.
  • Attend meetings as required for planning/training, etc.
  • Enforce food safety rules.
  • Communicate regularly with the Food Service Coordinator.
  • Complete tasks independently under pressure.
  • Maintains reliability and confidentiality.
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Shows professionalism in all settings during work hours and while on school property at all times.
  • Meets standards for competent and ethical performance as outlined in OAR 584-20-005 through 584-20-035.
  • Performs duties in a manner reasonable expected and generally recognized by the profession as adequate.
  • Promotes positive attitudes within the total staff.
  • Is courteous, friendly and shows warmth and respect to school personnel.
  • Promotes a positive attitude toward the school in the community.
  • Understands and supports district policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Reserves the right to differ on issues but will comply with decisions when made.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable actions for protection of students and school property.
  • Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent and/or designee.

  • Skills in effectively communicating with school personnel.
  • Knowledge of best food service practices and district policies.
  • Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with school personnel and vendors, meet schedule and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include: lifting/carrying/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception and accommodation field of vision.
Attendance:
The employee will have regular attendance at work and work activities, will be punctual to work each day
assigned, and will work all assigned hours. Will be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and
following schedules.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the superintendent and/or designee in accordance with
procedures established by the Board.
