Description of Position: The Food Service Manager is responsible for forecasting and ordering of goods using the MDE Briggs order site, receiving all goods and supplies; management and maintenance of inventory, creation and maintenance of production records, utilizing Mosaic inventory and production modules. Food Service Café Manager is proficient in preparation and cooking of main course items and side dishes, preparing salad bar setup and maintenance during service, service line setup and presentation and serving of meals; and kitchen cleaning as part of maintaining a safe food production and service environment. Food Service Manager is also responsible for recordkeeping of temperatures and production, inventory counting and cashiering duties to including: proficient operation of Mosaic POS software, recordkeeping, monies collection and all other functions of Mosaic including processing of advance payments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Understands and communicates the OSD Child Nutrition Department (CND) philosophy and informs Food Service staff and school community of the district wellness policy, meals, food sources, recipes, and overall Food Services program goals on a daily basis
- Ensures the timely service and presentation of meals according to the planned menu including proper cooking of main courses, side dishes, and salad bar preparation according to methods as outlined by Mississippi Recipes for Success and the CND Standard Operating procedures.
- Maintains accurate inputting of orders, receiving, inventory and inputting of production and meal count data using Mosaic software modules as required for compliance with the National School Lunch Program.
- Ensure the freshness of all prepared items by implementing proper rotation of food items prepared, properly wrapping and labeling prepared food items, and preparing only the amounts of food items as assigned.
- Participates and maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen, cafeteria and storage areas under the auspices of CND including, but not limited to, walk-ins, refrigeration, freezers, dry storage and office space.
- Directs the work of Food Service Worker 1 & 2 to ensure an efficient, organized and harmonious team environment.
- Directs meal service periods working in a position either as serving line, cashier, or batch cooking
- Ensures cleanliness of the dining facility to ensure sanitation and customer expectations are met on a meal by meal basis.
- Ensure accurate inputting of all production and meal count data required for compliance with the National School Lunch Program.
- Ensure accurate reporting of all sales transactions, account balances, collection of funds, processing of advanced payments and preparation of daily deposit slips. Is able to operate and close daily transactions.
- Ensure accuracy in recording and maintaining temperature logs for equipment, food production, and food transport, as outlined in the CND Standard Operating Procedures.
- Fosters district commitment to excellence and equity by ensuring that employees and students are valued, respected and provided a positive work/learning environment.
- Establishes positive relations with internal and external customers, including students, staff, school administrations, parents, and community members.
- Reads and responds to CND emails and other department communications such as newsletters and memos and helps employees with department communications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS - High school diploma, completion of GED
- At least 2 years of experience in Food Services. At least 3 years preferred.
- Must obtain ServSafe Certificate within first 6 months of employment
- Offer contingent upon passing post offer physical
All employees hired by the school district must pass a criminal background and child abuse registry check.
PREFERRED SKILLS - Ability to stay on task and explicitly follow directions
- Must be willing to fill in as the Cafeteria Manager as needed
- Reliability and a strong work ethic
- Experience in the food service or fast food business would be helpful
- Job may require the lifting of up to 40 pounds and working in temperatures as low as zero degrees
