Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Food Service Supervisor and in cooperation with the building administration, Food Service Manager II oversees all school food service at a large elementary or middle school, generally with more than 200 students. Duties include but not limited to: providing hands-on support and direction to multiple food service staff including prioritizing workloads, assigning and reassigning tasks; reviewing the work of food service employees to ensure that work is completed in a timely manner; overseeing and coordinating School Breakfast Program, National School Lunch Program, After School Snack Program and Catering events including evening and weekends; training, coaching and evaluating food service employees in proper work procedures, including sanitation, production, reimbursable meal requirements and safety; coordinating and overseeing kitchen operations, including food production and dish washing; ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment inventories; follow state and federal regulations; keep records and make written reports as required; account for all moneys collected and reconcile accurate meal counts; provide excellent student, parent and school district staff customer service and presentation.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required AND two years supervisory or lead work experience in a large scale school, commercial, hospital, or institutional food service operation with responsibility for maintaining required production levels, preparing scratch goods using standardized recipes for volume dining, and providing knowledge of the materials and equipment used in a volume dining/food service facility OR an associates degree in Culinary Arts, Accounting or Management. Must hold a Lane County Food Handlers card.

Requirements:

Strong leadership capabilities, customer relations skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a variety of personalities required. Maintain a professional demeanor in stressful or confrontational situations. Skills in performing basic arithmetic calculations, operate and care for institutional kitchen equipment (including but not limited to industrial sized food slicer, mixers, ovens, steam equipment and dishwashers) use standard office equipment and computers. Experience with Mealtime software a plus. Knowledge of efficient methods of food preparation and the ability to coordinate production to assure high standards of nutrition and food service to students and staff. Ability to order appropriate quantities of food and supplies to produce a menu. Knowledge of modern health codes and sanitation principles. Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, provide direction to others and make independent judgments based on common sense, keep and maintain accurate records, and understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Requires ability to stoop, twist, bend, reach and grasp; lift up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis and 25 pounds routinely; ability to work under frequent temperature extremes including working in hot and humid conditions and over heated food service areas. Workflow is sporadic and includes extreme and sustained rush periods during peak meal service hours.

Salary Range:

Consistent with Food Service Manager Salary schedule; $16.79 - $21.90 hr.
